Allowable Materials

  • Well-laundered (synthetic or 100% cotton clothing)​

  • Powderless nitrile gloves​

  • Silicone and HDPE plastics (tubing, buckets, brushes) ​

  • Stainless steel​

  • Waterproof clothing (polyurethane, PVC, wax-coated fabrics, rubber, neoprene)​

  • Boots made of polyurethane and/or PVC​

  • Wood clipboard​

  • Pencils/Ballpoint pens​

  • Lab provided labels​

  • Thin/ultra thin tip sharpie​

  • Lab provided PFAS-free water​

  • PFAS-free soaps (Alconox®, Liquinox®, and Citranox®)

Staging-Area Only Materials

These materials can be touched with gloves or by hand, but the sampler must decontaminate after usage.​

  • Sample coolers​

  • Plastic bags​

  • Tools​

  • First aid kits​

  • Sunscreen application ​

  • Bottled water​

  • Boot covers, if the sampler is not sampling in PFAS-free boots

Prohibited Materials

  • Water/Stain treated clothing like Goretex and Scotchguard​

  • Fire Resistant Clothing

  • Large tip Sharpie​

  • Clothing treated with a fabric softener​

  • Teflon-lined or coated items​

  • Insect Repellent​

  • Latex gloves​

  • Chemical or blue ice​

  • Rain
